Hawkins County, TN – On July 29, 2025, Hawkins County 911 received a call for a patient that was experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Hawkins County 911, Hawkins County EMS, and the Hawkins County Rescue Squad, the patient received rapid, life-saving care and was later discharged home from the hospital.
When the 911 call came in, Emergency Communications Specialist Williams quickly recognized the seriousness of the situation. Within 40 seconds, she had created a call for service and sent it for dispatch while giving the caller CPR instructions. Listening carefully to the patient’s breathing, she identified the signs of cardiac arrest and guided the caller through chest compressions until responders arrived.
Working alongside her, Communications Supervisor Hill ensured that Hawkins County EMS and Hawkins County Rescue Squad were dispatched without delay making sure that responders were enroute within moments, strengthening the patient’s chances of recovery.
On scene, Hawkins County Rescue Squad members began CPR and applied an AED, delivering a shock that restored the patient’s heartbeat. Hawkins County EMS arrived on scene and began advanced cardiac treatment, airway management, and rapid air transport to a regional hospital. The patient was discharged home just seven days later.
In recognition of this exceptional response:
ECS Williams has been awarded the CPR Save Award.
Supervisor Hill has been awarded the Outstanding Performance Award.
Hawkins County EMS and Hawkins County Rescue Squad members were honored with Life Saving Pins by their respective agencies, including:
